Pharmacological Study on the Root of Pursatilla Koreana Nakai

Abstract
The effects of root of Pursatilla koreana Nakai on the blood sugar level, the amount of total cholesterol in serum and the serum transaminase (SGP-T, SGO: T) activities of normal and alloxandiabetic rabbits were observed.
The Pursatillae Radix were extracted with methanol and the extracted sample was orally administrated to normal and alloxan-diabetic rabbits.
The blood sugar level, the amount of total cholesterol in serum and the serum transaminase activities of normal rabbits were significantly increased by intravenous administration of the alloxan at a level of 80mg/kg of live weight for 2 days.
As for the blood sugar levels, the amount of total cholesterol in serum and the transaminase activities of normal rabbits no significant variations were detected by administration of the extracted sample.
The increased amount of total cholesterol in serum of alloxan-diabeti crabbits were significantly and gradually decreased by adminstration of the extract of Pursatillae Radix, and returned to the control levels after 15 days.
However, the increased serum transaminase activities of alloxan-diabetic rabbits were not significantly decreased by administration of the extracted sample compared to that of control group.
The increased blood sugar level of the alloxan-diabetic rabbits were significantly decreased after 15 days following the administration of the extracted sample.
According to the above results, it is concluded that the extract of Pursatillae Radix have influence to the recovery of the increased total cholesterol in serum and the blood sugar.
